Omtanke—It’s Swedish for “Caring,” “Consideration,” & “To Think Again”—It’s Also the Name of Volvo Car’s Sustainability Program

Sustainability isn’t just the right thing to do ethically, socially, and environmentally, it’s also the best strategy for business. In this next video, Director for Sustainability Stuart Templar explains what sustainability means to Volvo Cars, what it means for drivers, and what it means to the continued success of the Volvo brand. He speaks about “Omtanke,” which is both a Swedish word that means “caring, consideration,” and “to think again,” as well as the name of Volvo Car’s sustainability program. A sustainable future is a bright future—let Volvo Cars shine the light.

The Omtanke Program has a fewcore aims, to “minimize our environmental impact, maximize our social impact, and care for customers and employees,” according to Stuart Templar. In order to fulfill these aims, the program has set out two concrete goals to work toward:

  • Volvo Cars wants to have one million electrified Volvo vehicles on the road by the year 2025.
  • Volvo Cars aims to have climate-neutral manufacturing operations by the same time, 2025.
These goals aren’t just central to the Omtanke program, but they’re central to the Volvo Cars strategy moving forward, for continued success in the automotive industry.

2025 is not that far off, and Volvo Cars is already leading the charge toward electrification with the Volvo XC90 Hybrid , which makes us excited to see what the coming years hold.
